Dhrishti Bheda ( Different types of eye movements )

Introduction : Dhrishti Bheda

Dhrishti means ‘eye’ and Bheda means ‘movements’. Dhrishti bheda is based on  different types of eye movements and how we move our eyes. Similarly various types of eye movements plays an important role in daily part of life. Movements of eyes carries their own (Unique ) idendification and help us to understand important characters of eyes carrying in different manner such as (for observing someone’s skill, what kind of mood the character is in and  understanding what the other person is thinking ). There are 7 different types of eye movements mentioned in dhrishti bheda with their names:

  • Sam

  • Alokik

  • Sachi

  • Pralokit

  • Molit

  • Ullokit

  • Anuvrita

Meaning of Samdrishti Bheda

Looking straight lika a goddess and no movements of eyes is called called samsdhrishti-bheda.

 

Viniyog of Samdhrishti Bheda

Samdhrishti is used in beginning of dance.

             Alokitam   Bhavtashubhranam    Sfutvikshanam

 

Meaning of Alokik Bheda

Rolling eye balls in a circular manner and showing all the things is called alokikdhrishti-bheda.

 

Viniyog of Alokikdrishti  Bheda

Alokikdhrishti is used for showing circular movement of potter’s wheel by eyes .

Meaning of Sachidrishti Bheda

Looking to the one side through corner of eyes is called sachidrishti-bheda.

Sachidhrishti is used for touching moustache.

Meaning of Pralokit Bheda

Looking from one side to the another side through eyes is called pralokit bheda.

Pralokitadrishti  bheda is used for showing objects from one side to the another side.

Meaning of Molitdhrishti Bheda

When eyes are half-closed in manner of meditation is called molitdrishti-bheda.

Molitdhrishti bheda is used for showing control under man’spower.

While looking toward the sky through eyes is called ullokitdhrishti bheda.

Introduction : Bhramari Bheda “ Bhramari” is meant by taking a turn. This movement is possible only through foot. Thererfore, bhramari bheda is kept under the pada- karma. In Natyashastra there is no description of bhramari bheda but it is acquired from various shastra grantha.
