Introduction: Baandhavahasta

Hasta mudra is an important part of bharatanatyam dance  and these different types of hasta mudra help us to convey (   feelings or emotions ) which   is one of the most beautiful attribute of Indian classiical dance forms namely ( Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam and Sattriya ). These several types of hasta mudra are important for dance compositions and they are also known as Bandhu Hastas. As per Abhinaya Darpan there are 11 baandhav hasta. Each hasta mudra denotes relationship  between the family. One of the most attracting features of Indian Classical dance is the use of hand gestures. To convey inner feelings (  hasta mudra or hand gestures ) are used in Indian Classical Dance Forms. There are 10 different types of hasta mudras   mentioned in baandhavahasta with their respective names :

Meaning of Dampatihasta

Left-hand holding ( Shikhar-hasta) mudra and rightT-hand  holding ( Mrigashirsh-hasta ) mudra is called dampati-hasta.

Meaning of Matrahasta

Left-hand holding ( Ardhachandra-hasta ) mudra and right-hand holding ( Sandash-hasta ) and left-hand is taken in circular-motion and kept on right-side is called matra-hasta.

Meaning of Pitrahasta

Matru-hasta is shown by left-hand holding ( Ardhachandra-hasta ) mudra and ( Shikhar-hasta ) mudra is shown by right-hand is called pitra-hasta.

Meaning of Shvashruhasta

Right-hand holding ( Sandash-hasta ) near to the neck and left-hand holding ( Sandash-hasta ) mudra is called shvashru-hasta.

Meaning of Shvashurhasta

Left-hand holding ( Shvashur-hasta ) and right-hand holding ( Sandash-hasta ) is called shvashur hasta.

Meaning of Bhantubhratrahasta

Left-hand holding ( Shikhar-hasta )  and right-hand holding ( Kartarimukha-hasta ) and both hands on both the sides is called bhantubhratra hasta.

Meaning of Nanandahasta

Though finishing with bhantubhratra hasta and ( Mrigshirsha-hasta ) mudra is shown by right-hand is called nanda hasta.

Meaning of JyeshthaKanishthaBhratrahasta

If ( Mayur-hasta ) is shown by both hands forward and beside is called jyeshthakanishthabhratra hasta.

Meaning of Putrahasta

Left-hand holding ( Shikhar-hasta ) and right-hand holding ( Sandash-hasta ) and kept on left-side of stomach is called putra-0hasta.

Meaning of Snushahasta

Introduction : Bhramari Bheda “ Bhramari” is meant by taking a turn. This movement is possible only through foot. Thererfore, bhramari bheda is kept under the pada- karma. In Natyashastra there is no description of bhramari bheda but it is acquired from various shastra grantha. Introduction : Nayak-Nayika According to human behaviour Shastrakaron explained the difference in behaviour of ‘Men’ and ‘Women’ which are called as nayak-nayika bheda.
